Emergent Integrates Gamebryo LightSpeed with NVIDIA PhysX Technology for Wii Development

Emergent Game Technologies and NVIDIA Corporation announced today that they have integrated the award-winning Emergent Gamebryo game development platform and NVIDIA PhysX technology for Wii game development. Gamebryo and the newly announced Gamebryo LightSpeed are the only third party engines with NVIDIA PhysX technology directly coordinated with the Wii toolset.

This integration for Wii builds upon the existing Gamebryo and NVIDIA PhysX technology support for Xbox 360, PLAYSTATION 3 system and Wii. Both Emergent and NVIDIA are focused on creating cross-platform, cross-genre core technologies that fit the needs of the industry, rather then the needs of just a single title. With this integration, Wii game designers developing on Gamebryo now have an unprecedented level of physics support to make more immersive and interactive titles.

“With our launch of Gamebryo LightSpeed we wanted to create the most flexible, powerful and user friendly environment for game developers possible,” said Geoffrey Selzer, CEO, Emergent Game Technologies. “The performance of PhysX is well known and with NVIDIA’s commitment to tools, partners and this integration relationship we are offering the industry an unparalleled solution.”

“The response we’ve gotten from the development community since we first began working with Emergent has been incredible,” said Roy Taylor, vice president of content relations at NVIDIA. “Our shared approach of creating world class technology that is customized to each platform to obtain the highest level of performance has been very successful. The titles being developed using PhysX and Gamebryo are going to set the benchmarks for achievement in game development.”

Available for Gamebryo 2.6, NVIDIA PhysX technology integration is also directly available in the tool set of Emergent’s recently unveiled Gamebryo LightSpeed. Gamebryo LightSpeed is a quantum leap forward in game development technology that delivers top-to-bottom professional grade software for start-to-finish multi-genre game development with rapid prototyping, rapid iteration and real-time updates.

Emergent’s products and NVIDIA PhysX technology have both been optimized to allow developers to get the most out of input mechanisms as well as the exporter and rendering pipeline. Emergent has done this by including Terrain Builder and Run-Time, additional texture format support, efficient artist tools exports using smaller data types, improved resource utilization from reduced MEM1 requirements and Floodgate stream processing tailored for the Wii. Standard Gamebryo features are mapped to the unique capabilities of this platform with support for the Wii Remote controller.

The NVIDIA PhysX technology has been tailored to create the industry’s most immersive real-time, real-world experience available on the Wii. It does this leveraging the best of both the GPU and CPU architectures of today’s consoles. NVIDIA PhysX technology includes a robust physics engine, API and software development kit (SDK). These elements give all members of the development team the unique ability to author and preview physics in real time which provides exceptional creative control over character and object physical interactions.

Emergent Game Technologies works with developers and the industry’s top middleware providers to create state-of-the-art software and services needed to rapidly move from prototype to final product. These proven, stand-alone solutions include the award-winning Gamebryo software platform. Emergent helps developers fulfill their maximum creative potential by giving them the power to endlessly – and efficiently – iterate development.

Emergent is headquartered in Calabasas, California, and has offices in Chapel Hill, NC; Austin, Texas; London; Tokyo; China and Korea. To learn more, visit http://www.emergent.net

Emergent Game Technology’s Gamebryo is used to create high-quality titles for PLAYSTATION 3 system, Xbox 360, PC and Wii. Publishers that have used Gamebryo in the past include: Disney, Google, Electronic Arts (EA), Take Two, Namco and THQ to name but a few. Gamebryo has been used as the core tech in high profile titles such as EA-Mythic’s Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning and Firaxis’ Civilization Revolution. Gamebryo LightSpeed, the next leap forward in game development technology, offers game designers a cross-platform, cross-genre solution that has rapid prototyping, rapid iteration and real-time updates to simplify game technology creation and open the door to exciting gameplay possibilities.

To date, Gamebryo has been used in more than 250 shipped games titles from downloadable casual games to first-person shooters to massively multiplayer online games. Another 150 titles are currently in development
