Discreet, a division of Autodesk Inc., announced that its 3ds max 3D animation software has been used to create some of this season’s most highly anticipated computer and console games. With the gaming industry’s largest installed base, 3ds max software continues to be the definitive professional toolset for leading developers in the $23.2 billion dollar gaming industry.
The releases, many of which build on best-selling franchises, include:
- EverQuest II—from Sony Online Entertainment
- GoldenEye: Rogue Agent and Need for Speed Underground 2— both from EA Games
- Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas—from Rockstar Games
- Halo 2—from Bungie Studios and publisher Microsoft Games
- Myst IV: Revelation—from Ubisoft
- Prince of Persia: Warrior Within—from Ubisoft
- Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords—from developer BioWare and publisher LucasArts
- Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon 2—from Red Storm Entertainment and publisher Ubisoft
- Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War—from developer Relic Entertainment and publisher THQ
- World of Warcraft—from Blizzard Entertainment
“A majority of successful games choose 3ds max software because top developers need reliable tools that will allow them to meet the critical deadlines of the holiday season,” said Michel Kripalani, Games Industry Manager, Discreet. “3ds max software continues to be the most widely used professional 3D package in this space because it remains the most productive 3D tool available at any price.”
"For us, no other 3D software performs even close to 3ds max for maximum return on investment,” said Jonathan Dowdeswell, Producer, Relic. “As far as 3D packages go, it is the easiest to use and it's getting better all the time. Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War is our second project done using 3ds max and we're able to focus more of our time creating and animating the best game art."
